The natural year in Dol – 2021/00
I am alive to the natural world in which I live, observing the day to day changes as the seasons inexorably march forwards.

Everywhere there are the first signs of spring. Bulbs are putting on new growth and the flower buds will soon be showing.
Something you very seldom see. The hills above Trogir on the mainland, 55km to the north west were visible because the rain has cleaned the atmosphere. You can even see the line of wind turbines at Seget Gornji. I’ve never seen them from home before.
The kittens have been testing the strength of the green mesh around the citrus trees this week. If it car survive being jumped on, as a kitten trampoline and as a comfy sleeping corner, I have n concerns about winter winds. 😉
With a month to go before the northern Midwinter solstice, already flower buds have appeared on my Narcissi. It will soon be spring!
Rainfall and warm temperatures make things grow. This especially applies to weeds that have developed to fill their own particular niche in the orchards.
As more and more leaves change colour and fall, I am collecting all that I can to make leaf mould.
Autumn mornings are nice. The sun is still warm, the dew highlights things you cannot always see, like spiders webs, and there is no wind.
Even at the end of October, with warm sunshine, butterflies, insects and reptiles abound – like this Balkan Wall Lizard, sunning itself on a warm rock
There are so many nice walks around the village, it is a shame that there is no authoritative guide for visitors to follow.
