As the days lengthen and warm, the natural world is waking from its winter slumbers. Soon the summer visitors will start to arrive.
Any time from late January is blossom time in Dol. But another stunning tree in flower at this time of year is the Mimosa, Acacia dealbata
Dol is bursting into spring. Everywhere there are the spring flowers, early insects and buds swelling on plants.
By late January, there is considerable warmth in the sun. We also now have more than an hour of sunlight each day.
The afternoon sun shines on Vrankovića Dvor, Dol and also on snow on Svete Jure, the highest point of the Dinaric Alps, 50 km distant.
The setting sun illuminates snow falling from a cloud.
I am alive to the natural world in which I live, observing the day to day changes as the seasons inexorably march forwards.
Everywhere there are the first signs of spring. Bulbs are putting on new growth and the flower buds will soon be showing.
Something you very seldom see. The hills above Trogir on the mainland, 55km to the north west were visible because the rain has cleaned the atmosphere. You can even see the line of wind turbines at Seget Gornji. I’ve never seen them from home before.
