Silent Sundays – 2020/25

I have Dragon Arum in flower at the moment. They look beautiful but smell dreadful!
The courtyard is almost finished! The stones sets need to be laid, and some paint will have to be applied to a wall, but the end in in sight…
The stands of Madnonna lilies are at their best this week. Soon they will die back, to reappear after the autumn rains arrive.
Every garden needs something a little different, spectacular even. If you can’t get a Triffid seed, then try and Echium “Blue Steeple”.
As someone pointed out last week, a weed is just a plant in the wrong place. Here I have some I am leaving to naturalise in their environment.
There is an abundance of colour in the orchards at the moment, even if a lot of the flowers are actually weeds!
We are into May now, Svibanj in Croatian, meaning the month of budding trees. Although there are few trees not in full leaf on Hvar.
Spring is the time for wild flowers. One I like in particular is the Tassel Hyacinth, Muscari comosum
Some flowers are long lived, others like the Salsify, although pretty, last less than half a day. They still set seed readily even with a short pollination window.
