Every garden needs something a little different, spectacular even. If you can’t get a Triffid seed, then try and Echium “Blue Steeple”.
As someone pointed out last week, a weed is just a plant in the wrong place. Here I have some I am leaving to naturalise in their environment.
There is an abundance of colour in the orchards at the moment, even if a lot of the flowers are actually weeds!
We are into May now, Svibanj in Croatian, meaning the month of budding trees. Although there are few trees not in full leaf on Hvar.
Spring is the time for wild flowers. One I like in particular is the Tassel Hyacinth, Muscari comosum
Some flowers are long lived, others like the Salsify, although pretty, last less than half a day. They still set seed readily even with a short pollination window.
As spring turns into summer my flowering trees, like this columnar Japanese Cherry “Amanogawa” look lovely.
Spring is almost over and the early flowering plants, like this Rosemary bush are attracting the pollinators.
COVID-19 means no more photo expeditions around the island. So I’ll be concentrating on other subjects
